CMU Annual Lunar Gala Fashion Show 2020

Lifeline is a fashion line designed for the 2020 Lunar Gala fashion show at Carnegie Mellon University. Lunar Gala is an annual student-run fashion show, with more than 1200 tickets sold every year.

Lifeline is a piece of yarn or string that is inserted into a previous row to hold those stitches in place in the event that one needs to redo the work because of a mistake.

I grew up swaddled in knits and purls. My security blanket has always be made of yarn. As I grew, my blankets turned to sweaters and my fears became all the more real. Anxiety plagues every thought of my impeding graduation. Am I ready to face the world? Why do I feel so lost? Who am I supposed to be?

In knitting, a lifeline is a safety net. A place to return to when you’ve made mistakes. Lifeline is a series of pieces for the soon-to-be adults of the world. A security blanket for those venturing out into the world fully prepared to make mistakes.
